We were super excited to join this group of Military Chefs. There were about 60 people in the group. We were intimidated at first because of the Military demeanor and because we are so used to doing wedding photography in Napa, it was a good change and we got them to warm up to us and ended up having an amazing time documenting their experience in Napa and Sonoma.
First, we met at the Oxbow Market to photograph their educational experience at 5 Dot Ranch Butcher Shop & Cookhouse. Everyone seemed so interested and thrilled to be there. Most had their phones recording the whole experience on how to butcher and learn about Sirloin Steak. We did not want to be disruptive during the speech so we had to be very quiet while capturing the moment. We were as discreet as possible and still got some amazing photos.
Next, everyone loaded the Pure Luxury Transportation buses and headed over to Figone Olive Oil Mill in Sonoma, where everyone got to learn about olive oil. We even did olive oil tastings, being in the Napa Valley it was a good change to go from wine to olive oil. This is seriously the best olive oil we have ever had and we even got to bring some home with us. It was a fantastic experience. The owners are very lovely, and they did an incredible job giving detailed information during the tour.
Last, we loaded the buses and headed to Benziger Winery in Sonoma. The winery is absolutely beautiful. The property is well maintained, the staff is very friendly and it was an amazing experience. They took three trailers (connected to a tractor) to transport us for their tour of the property and to get to the caves. It was very country, warm, welcoming and home-like feeling; definitely unique.
We ended up taking a group picture that was very challenging. The sun was going down quickly and we only had 5 minutes to take the picture, get the exposure and settings correct and get the flash power properly exposed. We brought a step stool with us because we knew it was a large group, we are very glad we did, otherwise it would have been even more difficult getting everybody in the frame. The outcome of the group pictures are fantastic! Everyone did such an amazing job at posing especially while being rushed to get on the bus. At this point everyone was tired, hungry and very excited to get to Santa Rosa, where they got to eat at BJ’s Restaurant.
They will be joining Robert Mondavi for an event where they get to eat and drink wine. Michelle also caters at Robert Mondavi and she will actually be serving them on Friday, so she is very excited to see everyone once again!
